6 Surprising Things That Don’t Belong in the Bathroom

Towels Neatly Folded in a Linen ClosetIf you’re among several individuals, you typically spend an average of 30 minutes to an hour in your bathroom every day. As you perform your morning and evening bathroom routines, you want to have everything you need conveniently within reach. But what if some of those things you’re keeping in the bathroom don’t belong there? By retaining some items in an unsafe spot, you could not only be cluttering up your bathroom space but also increasing the chances of getting sick from bacteria and mold. To stay away from both mess and these risks, the following is a list of items you should not keep in your bathroom.

1.       Towels and Bathrobe

Multiple individuals place their towels in a bathroom cabinet or shelf and hang their bathrobe there, as well. However, placing fabrics in a warm, moist environment such as a bathroom might be harmful to your health. Damp towels will develop germs and bacteria, which will eventually transfer to your skin after using them. The same thing is true for your bathrobe. Alternatively, try to keep your clean towels in a linen closet outside the bathroom and store your bathrobe in the bedroom.

2.       Your Toothbrushes

Numerous individuals put their toothbrushes by the bathroom sink. The major concern is that every time you flush your toilet, bacteria gets sprayed into the air and can land on your toothbrush – which then goes in your mouth. Absolutely nasty, if you come to think of it. Experts recommend keeping your toothbrush inside a drawer or cabinet, if feasible. And close your toilet lid before you flush – every time!

3.       Cosmetics and Nail Polish

You’re most likely storing your makeup and nail polish in the bathroom, but that may not be the best home for them. Cosmetic products will break down quickly in damp environments, and cosmetic sponges can become a breeding ground for bacteria. Nail polish will also evaporate fast if introduced to temperature swings and humidity. As a result, it’s imperative to store makeup and nail polish in a cool, dry spot, like a bedroom drawer, for example.

4.       Your Jewelry

Silver jewelry does not go well in moist environments and can tarnish right away when subjected to humid air like that in a bathroom. Even though gold won’t tarnish, it’s still vital to keep your jewelry someplace that is both cool and dry all along. Consider placing your jewelry in a box in a bedroom drawer or your closet.

5.       Prescription Medication

It’s a little unusual how numerous people have a medicine cabinet in the bathroom, yet you might need to think twice about it. For several medications to stay effective and not expire too soon, they must be positioned someplace dry. Since the bathroom can be usually humid, it might cause your medication to go bad or lose effectiveness in a limited timeframe. Storing your medications in a kitchen cabinet, out of the reach of small children, is your best option.

6.       Books, Photographs, and Art

Paper and photographs do not fare well in the humid air. Paper will absorb moisture, eventually growing mold if not maintained correctly. And this moisture will spoil your pictures, making them swell and curl prematurely. A humid bathroom will lead to permanent damage to both photos and books, so it’s excellent for placing these objects somewhere else in your home.
